John Curtis snags No. 1 seed, 23 metro area teams qualify for playoffs

February 17, 2020 By VSN Staff

The 2019-20 girls basketball playoff brackets have been released across Louisiana’s 12 classes and divisions, and a total of 24 teams from the metro area will be included in the field.

Three-time defending champion John Curtis will go for its fourth straight title as the top seed in Division I, and they’ll be the heavy favorites with a total of eight wins over (2) Mt. Carmel, (3) McKinley, (4) Dominican and (5) Chapelle.

The Patriots will open the postseason Wednesday at home against No. 8 St. Joseph’s Academy.

The highest non-select seed coming from the metro area will be No. 3 Karr, which finished the regular season 27-4. One of those losses was to two-time defending Class 4A champ and rival (6) Warren Easton, and the two teams could potentially meet in the quarterfinals.

Other top seeds from the area include No. 4 Booker T. Washington in Class 3A, No. 4 Ursuline in Division II and No. 3 Country Day in Division IV. All three teams advanced to Marsh Madness last season.
